Tom Welch

Tom founded Edyou to bridge the worlds of academia and practice.  He wanted to conduct academically rigorous research that was relevant to individual or small groups of schools – research that took into account the context that schools operated in and that focused on clear outcomes and realisable actions

A passionate advocate of the social justice agenda, Tom first became convinced of the power of meticulous research to solve real social issues during his formal academic training, which included a BA in Social and Political Sciences and an MPhil in Social and Developmental Psychology and Research Methods at the University of Cambridge

Following two years of PhD study into education and pedagogy, Tom began a career specialising in the applied, school-based research in which he believed his research could make the most difference.  With a particular interest in facilitating social mobility, tackling economic disadvantage and nurturing the whole student from early years provision onwards, Tom has since built a portfolio of work that includes working with individual schools all over England and Wales, collaborating with academy chains and educational charities and disseminating his research led recommendations through the national practitioner press and national conferences.
